    Nature abounds in the Region

    Birding opportunities near Oswego are excellent along the Oswego River, Canal, Lakeshore, and Derby Hill Observatory 10 miles to the North, near the town of Mexico.

    Favorite birds to watch for are the Osprey, Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, Great Blue Heron, and Green Heron.

    According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, this Harlequin duck, spotted on the Oswego River, is predominantly a bird of the seacoast that breeds along fast-flowing streams and winters by rocky coastlines.
